It’s a welcome return of the snooker and billiards leagues, with three competitive leagues.
The top match in the Premier League sponsored by Spec & Fix was between the top two teams from last season, Lincoln Snooker Club A and Newark Con Club. Daren Doughty started the season off with a 57-46 victory over Adam Sears. Matt Ransome made it 2-0 with a good 62-14 result against Dale Schofield. Dale reversed the score in the third frame winning 70-45 also against Matt. Gavin Whittle and Matt Bavin shared their two frames Matt winning the first frame 64-42, Gavin with a 50 break in their second frame. The final two frames were also shared, Jamie Barker defeated Rob Hall 71-27 and then Rob took the final frame of the night 75-27 with a 34 break.
Woodhall Spa Con Club entertained Lincoln Snooker Club D and took six of the seven points on offer. Neil Dowlman took the opening two frames against Mark Handford, Neil with a break of 43 in the second frame. Dan Burt shared his two frames against George Barrett and Jamie Turner with a break of 46 in his first frame winning 81-9 and 43-9 in the second frame both against Chris Robinson. Dan Burt played his third frame of the night which he won 46-17 against Mark.
Lincoln Snooker Club C and Lincoln Snooker Club B played the remaining match in the Premier League. Glenn Foster put his side one up when he defeated Stu Cannings 83-28. Glenn’s second frame was much closer and he had to come from behind to beat Justin Hunt 69-67. Rick Epton made it 3-0 for the B side with a 73-49 win over Phil Cross. Rick then made it 4-0 when he defeated James Lilley 65-30. Calum Baptist played the remaining three frames, he took the first frame 75-42 against Gary Falkinder but lost the final two frames against Stu and Justin.
In the first division Lincoln Snooker Club F took five of the six points against Castle Ward B, Paul Bean recorded two breaks of 25 in his 91-11 win over Craig Wallace. Matt Todd made it 2-0 with a good 47-16 victory over Ken Hall. Brian Lawson made it 3-0 when he defeated Matt Strickson 44-31 and Nick McCauley extended his team lead to 4-0 when he just got the better of Kev Cottam 49-44. In the fifth frame John McGovern won his sides only point of the night when he won a black ball decider 41-38. Jack Stayed at the table but this time faced Paul Bean who was in good form and Paul won 73-32 for a 5-1 home win.
The two Hykeham sides met in the opening match of the new season and it was the A team that came out on top winning 4-2. Steve Robinson and Gary Beardsley put the A side in to a 2-0 with victories over Chris Ellis and Dave Croft. Darren Edwards pulled one frame back for the B team when he needed a 33 clearance to defeat Rob Chapman 72-60. Steve returned to the table for the fourth frame and despite a break of 30 by his opponent, Michael Morrison Steve went on to win 72-56. Darren Edward played his second frame of the evening and won a black ball game 56-55 against Gary. The final frame saw Dan May win 67-24 against Chris.
Castle Ward A shared the spoils 3-3 with Lincoln Snooker Club E. Tim Dunn put the Ward one up when he defeated Brandon Staples 54-32. The Snooker Club side hit back and took the next three frames which saw victories for Anthony Liddell, Mark Taylor and Brandon who defeated Scott Gratrick 54-18. Rob Reeves made it 2-3 when he defeated Mark 50-14. The final frame saw Scott defeat Anthony 55-34.
In the second division the two Moorlands & Railway Sides met which resulted in a 5-1 victory for the A side, which saw two victories for Josh Weaver and Nathan Shasby and one win for John Rice. The B sides point came from Scott Simpson.
The youngsters from the Lincoln Academy recorded an excellent 4-2 home win over the Cube & Triangle 4-2. The Academy side raced into a 3-0 lead which saw wins for Jayden Hunt, Daniel Sherman and Oli Bishell. Karl Clayton pulled one frame back when he defeated Jacob Moura 35-11. The two Oli’s, Bishell and May played the last two frames, Oli Bishell defeated Dan Chambers 55-18 But Oli May lost 44-24 to Karl.
Lincoln Snooker Club G and H shared the six frames, Michael Stacey had an excellent result when he defeated Ray Reid 64-23. Leigh Blades levelled the scores when he came from behind to defeat Mark Gibbons on the black winning 59-58. Jim Byrne made it 2-1 for the H side when he won 70-20 against Ollie Schmitt. Ollie faired better in his second frame when he beat Tom Boyle 44-19. Tom then played Michael and he won that frame 56-48 for a 3-2 lead. The final frame saw Josh Hackney defeat Jim 38-25.
