About Us

Before the 1928–29 season, our competitions were known collectively as the Lincoln Billiards League. Snooker was introduced alongside the existing three billiards divisions, marking the beginning of a shift in popularity between the two sports.

In the early days, billiards teams played in a handicap format, with five players per side. Visiting teams were expected to contribute one old penny towards the lighting and also provide a referee for the match.

By the mid-1930s, snooker’s rising popularity led to the formation of a second snooker division. Billiards began to decline gradually, and snooker continued to flourish throughout the 1940s, eventually expanding to include third and fourth divisions.

In the late 1950s, billiards had reduced to a single division — a structure that remains in place today. Snooker, which once boasted up to seven divisions at its peak, now operates across three leagues.

Today, the league hosts a number of knockout competitions open to all players, culminating in our annual presentation night — a highlight of the season and a celebration of the league’s achievements.

As of the 2024–25 season, the league features around 125 players across 18 snooker teams in three divisions, alongside five teams in the billiards league.
